Devils Lake Fishing

Heading to Devil's Lake in Lincoln City, and fishing rainbows around March 30.
Probably going to fish the bottom with treble rig and power bait but the question is how deep do I fish for the big ones?
I've heard people say they move around the shore line, others say the hold over deep water, others say they are deep this time of year....

Can someone clarify for me?

I have fisahed it twice over the last month. Dragging Rapalla's, blue fox, worms, eggs, etc... Never had a bite.

The only fish I have seen were two pretty large trout caught off the bank with power bait.

I remember that I caught five big trouts with my son on the dock where we rent (the house was very closed to the Casino side, around "3621 NE 10th St, OR 97368 274 ft SE" in maps.google.com). 2-3 feet leader with egg weight and pink power bait worked. Good Luck!!

Spark - thanks for the info! What time of year were you fishing? And when you say big...how big were they?

They plan on putting in 6500 in the week of Mar 26-30 so you may have some luck with stockers...

ur gonna do best on the on the west side of the lake in six feet of water,egg sinker,three foot leader and power bait. Good Luck tight lines from FishWhistle

I went there to celebrate my commencement so it would be 6/18/2010. The size was 16-20 inch.

If the water is as cold as most other waters around here, the fish may be spread out. If you don't have luck in one spot, try others places until you find 'em. Good luck.

Devils lake fishing

Egg sinker then bead on mainline - snap swivil - leader on (snap side) then your (preferred) hook on the end of 2-3 foot of leader. 6lb test mainline with 4lb leader. (dime sized) ball of p-bait. Fish the colors (green, yellow, and orange) in that lake. Fish in 5-15 feet of water, not too far of the bank. ( fish the west-side for sureeeeee). On the fishing dock (west side) Go to very middle but on Green (p-bait) and cast between 10-20 feet off the dock (in the middle) and you should get hit on the way down, or within 10-20 mins fish on!! -------------- (worms with mellows) Could be the choice of the day!!! ORRRRRRRRRRR--------------- (Power eggs above your hook, with worm below them!!) Two green p-eggs and a little bit of worm on the bottom.

No Idea from my seat here, can't wait to hear how it goes. I know some folks that used to Bass fish that lake years and years ago. I havent been down there since 03' amd it was pretty baren at that time. Good luck out there and have a good time.

There is still bass in there! You can also find them in Big Creek Res. north of Newport. I have yet to see one but my cousin and his friends talk about it every time I see them.

Yep. In Big Creek Res. #1 (lower one of two Reservoirs), there are indeed bass to be had. I've fished the upper Res. (#2), for about a dozen years now, and have never seen nor heard of any bass. Plenty of 'bows and lots of dink perch (caught bucket-loads of perch once in October). But, that's all of the species in the upper lake I believe.

Dink Perch? Must be some larger ones somewhere... My son caught his limit in bows on garlic eggs. I think the locals were upset that their sherbert globs were not working and loved eye balling my cousins spear fishing catch, 2 lings and some black rockfish. Too bad that Newport has a plethora of buffalo sculpins.

used to fish that lake every spring break from the campground dock. The really tannish "Yellow" PowerBait always slayed em when the lake was stocked. Caught some 15inchers but nothing huge, saw a 20 inch get caught off that dock too. Last time I was there a few years ago fished from the public park on the opposite side of the lake and caught a few on a spinner

I thought I revive this old thread with some recent details...fished the lake this week and had success with bass fishing. I trolled a wedding ring spinner with worm on the NE shoreline, 10/20 yards from shore. The action was fast. No luck with trout but I really didn't give it a go.

It's great to see some bass activity at Devils Lake! After the ODFW planted Asian (grass) carp to ameliorate out-of-control weeds and those voracious, aquatic vegetarian fishes all but eliminated nearly all the weeds previously used by bass fry to hide from predators (including the 'folks), the bass population crashed. There were some big bass in there, then only big bass for a while as few youngsters reached maturity. Yours appear healthy and are certainly products of a spawning process in recent years. That's encouraging; thanks for posting!

On another topic, I've got a great technique gleaned from In Fisherman magazine many years ago with regard to catching White Amur (grassies). What ever happened to the 'tournament' that was in discussion to reduce this population? Anyone old enough to recall this? Artwo? 'Nice tu see you here, BTW. :)
