Want to get out on my sled and try to catch some Springers this weekend. Anybody know when Scottsburg gets going on the Umpqua? the other possibility is go up to the Columbia, but it is a longer drive.

Any ideas?

I'll guarantee you that the Umpqua will be blown this weekend! :(

I have not heard of any springer catch on the main yet, but it is going to happen anytime soon! ;)

Thanks Mad dog!

Appreciate the advice,

Fish are consistently being picked up in the mult channel from gilbert up to the island and at the confluence on the north end, goble-rainier area is fishing well also. I rarely see the columbia in unfishable conditions, but anchoring can be dangerous with heavy debre coming down on you. I personaly would fish the channel- Good luck

Thanks to you too, hitman! Gonna have to do some research on the channel now as I've only fished the Willy up there.

It sounds like you got some great advice right there! I would say, don/'t worry about the umpqua because it for sure will be blown out! Another quick question, Were you Runnin the willy at D street near day island on sunday march 11th?": was fishing and a guy that looked like he was havin a lot of fun in his jet craft!! :D

No, on Sunday the 11th we put in at Valley river center and only went down river. Must've been somebody else, but we did have fun though.

EDit: we went out on Sat. Did not get out on Sunday.

We decided to stay home this weekend. Probably spend some time down South next week.

Looking at the 10 weather forecast, April would be a better choice if you want to fish the Main for springers! ;) She's gonna be muddy for awhile! Besides, the springers were late last year and really didn't begin to even show until early april!

I was thinking maybe tuesday would fish at Scottsburg based on the flows? Heard a few were caught last week so I guess there's some around even though it's early. Never fished it before, so it'd be nice to get some practice in before it gets too crowded.

It'll be solid mud on Tuesday! It's gonna take awhile for Scottsburg to clear up! Regardless of the flows!

Why waste $4.00/gallon gasoline for poor fishing? Don't burn yourself out before it even gets going, let the run build up and everyone spread out and then hit it when the bite is on!

I'm going to fish Winter steelhead until the end of april. April was good last year! I saw bright winter fish caught clean into may last spring!

Point taken Mad dog,

I didn't consider the mud. I want to go out and get 'em, and my luck with winter steel is abysmal. So, I'm looking forward to salmon again, but I guess I should just do some yard work instead and hit it hard when everything comes together.

Thanks,

Another thing to think about is that the Columbia usually is fishing good well before the Umpqua or Rogue even get going! I have friends in the Albany area that had probably logged 6-8 trips averaging 3-5 fish/trip before the Umpqua even started fishing well last year!
