Saw a bunch of fish today in the low, clear conditions!

First pool I see a potential candidate. Crouching very low, I cast up and as the spoon drifts down, fish meanders over to investigate and just a light peck at it...nothing more. I pause for a cigarette, then cast back up. Again, fish targets the spoon and again, another light peck, but I was coiled and decided I'd strike. Swing and a miss!

I tried a few more times, but no more interest, so I moved on.

Cast along some shelves, then hit some pocket water. While down on my knees, I saw a tail flash and a very light tap as my spoon wandered down the current. Hmmm? Why don't these fish inhale the hook? That's the 3rd fish that just lips the lure today. Tried the cigarette trick again, and afterward, cast to same spot. Another light tap and yank. Fish on! Picked this fairly hefty native out of a pocket:

Notice the gashes...other side of the fish looked the same and I felt a little bad that not only did this fish already evade a predator, it had to deal with me! Gently sent him on his way after an apology ;)

After a few more exploratory casts, I headed back to the other hole I started at and saw three fish slowly work upstream into the hole, then another one followed, then two more. I cast around, but couldn't get any interest from the new crew and finally just gave up.

All in all, a decent day and I'm 2 for 2 since Friday :)

Wow, that fish has some gnarly battle wounds. Good thing that he found an ethical fisherman, to return him to the water.

Curious...did you change spoon style/type, color, size, etc. to entice any strikes?

I tried darker metal (copper, brass), two tones of either brass/red, brass/black and smaller, but oddly, the only thing that got any attention at all today was a 2/5 oz. silver/hammered. I also tried various spinners (brass, brass/black, silver/black, black/green, silver/red), but nothing for them either.

Jeez, Chez, you've turned into a total bent-metal fish magnet this season.

Wow. You tossed more hardware at them, then the hardware store has on its' shelves.

BTW, being a bent metal magnet should attract much steel!
