Change in bottom fishing regulations

Thanks Lon,
Im a ling and halibut guy but good to know!

Bottom fishing regulation changes coming for 2017:
--------------------------
December 2, 2016

SALEM -- ...The Commission also set 2017 groundfish regulations. For the recreational angler, the new regulations will require all groundfish anglers to have a descending device on board the vessel, and will require its use for all rockfish released outside of 30 fathoms. Anglers can find more information about descending devices and how to use them here.

The seven fish marine bag limit will remain in place, with these adjustments for 2017:
  • Create a sub-bag limit of six black rockfish.
  • Remove the sub-bag limit for canary rockfish.
  • Add China/quillback/copper rockfishes to the sub-bag limit with blue/Deacon rockfish and change the limit from three to four fish.
  • Remove the 10-inch minimum size for kelp greenling.

At the Saltwater Sportsman's' show in Salem they give out the descending device free to attendees. They also provide information on how to use them along with information on identifying the various rock fish. If it's not a long trip to Salem the show is well worth attending. I'm not sure what the date is this year. but I'll know long before it happens.

OK, so now you CAN keep copper, quillback, china, blue rockfish as of Jan-1-2017? ...................... the limit on page 94 of the 2017 doesn't apply?
