Blown away at Hagg

Gettin' Jiggy Wid It

Got to Hagg Lake this morning around 7 am and launched the NuCanoe around 7:30. Lost a a nice 14" trout around 8:00 am, then landed two 12" trout. All fish hit green wedding rings trolled behind a Mack's Flash Lite Troll.

The wind kicked up around 10 am (gusts of 20 mph), and there were white caps all over the lake. I got sick of that real quick and headed in at noon. I've seen Hagg get windy like that a lot. Lots of boats came in early with no or few fish. Saw a couple of guys in pontoons around boat ramp A who looked like they gave up by 10:30 am.

The wind can sure make it tough. Ive had a few bumpy rides out there in my Nucanoe. Glad you got a few fish for the troubles.

Man, wind can make fishing tough. In NC a strong wind was helpful because it would push schools of shad up against shorelines and weedlines. Here in OR I have not found any kind of similar benefit. Glad that you were able to get some success before having to bail.

I can take cold, rain, sleet and snow...even lock-jawed fish...but wind is a real deal killer for an addicted two-rod pontoon troller like myself. The only semi-strategy I have is ducking up the windward side of an inlet arm and still-fishing til it blows over. Thanks for the rig info on your nice catches. Last time at Hagg, I also lost a biggun. Never saw it, but it snapped a 4lb leader! Time to switch my leaders to 8lb.

I was thinking of trying Hagg or Coffenbury on Saturday morning... last time out I hooked up using green on green Blue Fox spinners and cripple tail Rapala minnows in the Tiger pattern... so it looks like greens are still the ticket! Thanks for the info everyone!
