A little trouble reading regs :(

Hey all,

I am having a little trouble reading the regs. They keep updating from the book I got at sportsmans and I am a little worried that I am going to get pinched not knowing when they update. Is there a link, or newsletter, text? that you all get when they change?

On a related note... I was hoping to do some chinook plunking this week at either dibblee or Prescott... my understanding from the regs is they are open to chinook (24 inches or above) and coho (20 inches) no steelhead... is that correct?

When are jack chinook keepable?

Sorry about the lame questions - I'm very new to this game but have learned a ton from people I meet on the road! Thank you all in advance!

first, you always want to get the latest info and updates from the ODFW website, especially for salmon, steelhead, halibut, and sturgeon. you can sign up to get e-mail alerts whenever there is any change or update to the regs. in whatever zones you are interested in.

https://myodfw.com/http://www.eregulations.com/oregon/fishing/
the printed regs. contain lots of good information on what is lawful and unlawful plus the 'permanent' zone and local regs.
also remember that Oregon regs. work in layers- general/state wide comes first, then zone regs that can modify the state regs for that zone, and finally the local exceptions can change/modify the state and zone regs. another way to look at it- if the next layer of regs is silent (makes no changes), then the previous layer of regs. applies. and last are 'in-season updates', often the most important.

I found Dibblee Point, you check for "in-season updates" here:
https://myodfw.com/recreation-report/fishing-report/columbia-zone#Falllooks to be between Puget and Batchelor islands, so this is what applies:

it isn't as difficult as it seems especially if you focus on your specific area and get a good understanding for it's permanent regs and when the in-season updates are released. cheers, roger
