A little change of pace question

Hey everyone ,

I have been scratching my head trying to think of the best way to clean my cork handles any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

On a side note , I like to try different fishing lines from time to time. So this year I changed my Reel over from P line Floroclear 8lb to Maxima ultragreen 8lb. And I must say , I am switching back immediately. What had me wanting to try new lines , I found the P line to be a bit on the elastic side but it had very low memory and casted a mile. I had tried the Maxima Chameleon and didn't like the memory of that line , but it casted smoothly and was strong.. Maxima Ultragreen on the other hand I have found to have Terrible memory , cast Poorly but it feels strong. Also this could just be an optical illusion but it appears the dia. of this line is thickker than the other 2.

I realize this is sort of a 2 part question post , but have any of you noticed similar problems with this ultragreen , or might I just have a bad spool ?

Thanks Guys

Jer

Ultra fine (almost smooth) sandpaper...like what techs at HP used to use to "polish" plastic computer cases back in the day. I'm not sure where to find some these days; but I bet that your local computer wizards will.

Sage-

I don't know much about line, but I am sure you will get a lot of information quickly.

I know that this is going to get me punched in the nose by Troutdude, but I did a lot of research into cleaning cork grips when I first started fishing several years ago (when using Powerbait). Despite what you may hear, do not use fine sandpaper on your cork as it wears the material away faster than you might think and also changes the feel of the cork itself. Don't use steel wool, as it causes pitting of the cork (and can also cause staining from any residual steel bits left in the cork fibers). Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, Comet, Ajax and etc. all ruin the feel of the cork as well.

The proper method of cleaning the handles is to use a soft cloth and denatured alcohol (available at home centers and paint stores). The alcohol evaporates quickly and does not cause any damage to the cork cell structure or to any adhesives. After your handles are clean give them a coat of U-40 Cork Sealer (I get mine from Cabellas but there might be other sources). This will retain the original cork feel of the grip.

Welcome to OFF,

EJ

Eamon, why the heck would I do that? Or, are you kidding around?

Anyway, the words "fine sandpaper" may NOT really be what I was trying to describe. If you call a computer nerd; you'll be able to find out what I was referring to. It worked fine on any and all of the cork, that I've ever used it on.

BUT, I must also say that Eamon has OFFered some fine ideas. In fact, I may have to try that myself. Thanks for the suggestions Eamon!

Have you ever known me to NOT be kidding around?

I have never heard of the paper that you are referring to, but my brother-in-law is one of those super computer nerds who can't say where he works because of national security concerns*. I bet he will have some super-secret version of the paper that I will be able to try out. I appreciate your suggestions as well,

Eamon

*In fact maybe you should just forget that I told you this

LOL

Will your tape recording self destruct in 5 seconds? Will you also disavow any knowledge of my actions?
