We worked hard for a summer buck. I don't know how many days on the water but I was determined to get one in April. We floated for over a week hitting ever piece of water that might hold a steelhead. On this particular day we couldn't keep the trout and smolts off our lines but we did get a thick chrome football to take our OFFering in between trout.

Many of the trout hit so hard they seemed like steelhead so when this one hit I figured it was just another hard hitting trout. When my son pulled the rod out of the rod holder and told me he couldn't get it to come up I knew it was game on. He fought it well as I tried to get the anchor to stick. I traded him the net for his rod and I pulled the fish up to the boat and he scooped it out of the water like a pro. Considering he catches more steelhead than me since I'm at the oars all the time, he and his brother have had a lot of practice and are pretty darn good.
We had permagrin all night
....he just kept saying, "I can't believe we caught a steelhead" referring of course to how hard we worked for this fish.
There aren't too many fish in there and now that the river is blown out I'm sure it'll be another couple week before it's fishable again. Looking forward to getting back out there.
