It's been a great year for Chinook! I'm not sure if I've caught my last salmon of the year already, but in case I have, here's my last limit. My favorite rivers proved to be a challenge this year. I had lots of chances....hooked 12 and missed at least 6 or 7 other bites....but fishing alone is a challenge on small rivers. I had friends with me for 2 days and they didn't help with my landing ratio at all. I think they made it worse as both fish they hooked could have easily been landed if it weren't for two critical errors that have been giving me nightmares for two weeks now. LOL
The day they left to go home to Idaho, I went to the river for a quickie before I headed home. Turns out it was a good decision. A nice flush of bright fish had moved in and the bite was on. I started a little later than I wanted to so I bypassed the first few holes and headed to some of my favorites. I had a little grab on the first run, so that gave me a little hope. On the next run, I hooked one and lost it almost immediately. I pulled over to regroup, laid the line back out, and immediately got slammed in the same spot. The fish took me downstream and I barely got it to the net before I passed the take-out. I grabbed my truck, raced to the put-in to do another run, and picked up a second hatchery fish in another hole upstream. I finished the day early and went home with a hard-fought limit.
