I am planning my first salmon or steelhead fishing trip soon. I am trying to determine what a good reel and rod combo would be. Something that could be a good starter that is versatile enough to do either in the future.
I'd like to find some info about fishing line leader, brand, lbs, length, etc for salmon and steelhead depending water color. Could you recommend for me?
Does anybody know any hatchery steelhead or salmon fishing spots for the South santiam river?
OK guys am new here and bought a smoker craft 16 ft. I want to upgrade the fish finder have about 1k to spend on one . Am new to the fish finder stuff . So I am looking for suggestions on a good finder for my boat.
First time going for coho, and was wondering what the normal pound mainline and leaders are. I first assumed it would be heavier line since they are still salmon. But I've been doing some research and have been reading 8-10lb main and 6-8lb leaders.
Do I really need rods that exceed 10' to catch any of the salmon family? I have a sturgeon rod and a medium action 9' Shimanno that I just got a few months ago.
Once salmon enter freshwater, they stop eating. So a salmon is a lot like a car that must make a long trip on one tank of gas. If anything delays the salmon, they may use up their fuel too soon — and not have enough to make it home.
First timer, is social security beach easy to find? I'm assuming it's not the main park area.
Went fishin on the Wilson for the elusive steelhead and on the 5th trip out when it was snowing back in Jan I finally hooked and landed a 8lbs buck! Definitely a moment I will remember for the rest of my life!
Since I am bankbound, I was wondering where they might be good spots along the Columbia to try for sockeye, and what sort of rigs work for them. I know I could try Cascade Locks, because I caught one there last year while shad jigging.
I would like to go toss a slab of metal at a salmon. Is there a nice little tidewater that might afford me good odds with all the odd weather we have been having?
Tried plunking couple times but keep getting my rig tangled up . I caught a native Chinook last week on the Columbia river while fishing for bass on a ultralight rod with 6lb line on a spinner jig .
I have caught lots of salmon on herring, and they will be in the boat, but I was curious what spinner everyone gets the most attention on?
Are these braided and new hi-grade lines worth the money?
Thinking about heading out there this weekend just want to get the word on the current bite. Thanks
Sorry if this question has been asked before, but what rods do people run trolling for salmon?

I live in the Eugene area and have recently gotten super into Steelhead and Salmon fishing. Unfortunately I struck out with the steelhead on the Siuslaw this season...
Hey guys, could anyone direct me to some good bank fishing spots on the rogue river?
