I heard that the Sandy river is a pretty good spot to go fishing for salmon/steelhead, but wondering if it's worth it for trout? If so, any holes/locations in particular?
Portland to Deschutes river is a couple of hours-ish, depending on what stretch of the river you're fishing. Same for Klickitat River on the WA side. Both have great trout fishing.
My wife and I will be camping at North Waldo Lake campground the first week in September. I would like to hike to a nearby lake for some fishing maybe 5 miles or less round trip. Any suggestions.

The change for the 2024 season is good news for anglers. You will be able to land five kokanee in addition to the five trout limit instead of a combined five fish limit. The change is on page 55 of the 2024 regulations.

Fishing generally sucked. Unless of course you like catching 8” kokanee. I don’t, I wanted a few rainbow trout with some shoulders on them. Anyhow it was a great trip for hiking and camping. I must admit I really only fished a total of 3 hours.
I think I might be running a bit small on the hook size. I've been rigging up #14's and #16's. Should I be more in the #12 or even #10 range?

Cut small chunks off and secured with an egg loop on a number 6 hook sliding weight rig with number 12 black corkie for flotation. I limited out in less than an hour:shock:. My dad through power bait eggs and only landed two in 4 hours, haha!
