Catch and release is much more possible when that is what you set out to do. That said if you are fishing a system that has nates in it or some other off limit fish you should always err on the side of caution. I NEVER use treble hooks and try to use the appropriate size hook for the fishery...

"Guess It gives those who cannot penetrate the wilderness a chance to catch a fish too ,just dont seem much like real fishin to me."
Really?
Kids learn on these waters and occasionally evolve into full fledge concientious stewards of sport. Old...
In my most non-confrontational tone I told the guy that probably the only fisherman that appreciate the release of gravely injured fish were the ospreys. He chuckled nervously and kind of gave me a sideways look. I was fishing with a small spinner and showed him several times that it's easier...
Went trout fishing this morning and the bite was GOOD. Guy next me kept releasing gravely injured fish in hopes of getting five big ones. Bothered me at first but then three osprey showed up. they swooped in on the floaters and gave everyone a crazy show. The circle of life includes...
Good advice on what water to fish from Kodiak. Spinners work best on moving fish. After all a moving fish is an active fish. Fish those deepish 3' to 6' riffles. Just want to add one thing. In higher flows a lot of times fish will hit your spinner as it completes its swing. The worst thing...
offering a fish to someone is a nice gesture. If they say no thanks it's likely because they are confident that they will catch their own limit. Although C+R Fishing for stocked rainbows is a interesting concept. It's hard to do in practice because they generally plow into your offering and...
been thinking seriously bout stripping the 8# ultragreen off my winter steelhead rig and replacing it with heavier (10# or 12#) in case I hook into one of those 12# springers that seem to be popping up. From the direction this thread is going maybe I can get away with 8# for summer steel and...
light colored rapala crankbaits work well in the Willamette for smallmouth. Be careful if your using ultra light gear. Some takedowns have been known to snap rod tips right off!
There is definitely more good than bad or ugly on this forum. I just felt compelled to say my piece. Fishing grounds me. It makes all the bull@#$& melt away. I have to admit that my first post is somewhat negative in tone. Shame on me. In the future my contributions will be from a happy...
hostility may be a bit strong of a word for what I'm talking about. However, when we have inexperienced folks that seem to generally want to improve their knowledge of the regs and the local ettiquette we should embrace them. This doesn't mean you have to share your secret spot or dynamite...
I've been periodically looking at this site for six plus months and have seen (and used) a lot of useful advice. Thank you! For example the steelhead threads have opened my mind to new techniques that have worked. It's been fun to see new things work when I have always been a simple roe...
