When I used to be a deck hand we would run a 1lb. cannon ball with parachute chord and a clip. Those would be used off the front 2 rods.
Whe had sharpie marks every 10 feet on the rope in order to figure depth.

The Nestucca and Wilson is where we did the best. There are still a lot of fish around. This rain should really get them moving...
Just got back from 5 days of steelheading the north coast streams. All I can say is the fishing has been epic!!! I fished with 3 friends each day. Our slowest day was 2 our best was 15 hooked 9 landed, including a 20+ pounder. Still a lot of brood stock around as well.

I hate fishing a rising river! Having said that, I was fishing the Trask as the river was blowing out :(. My buddy Rene hooked 3 in about 1/2 hour at the dam hole. I did not touch a fish.
Moral of this story. It can be done but not ideal:confused:
Nice! I have been experimenting with this technique, except I'm using thin spoons. I have landed 2 so far in deep cold water.
Takes a little getting used to though.
