I grew up riding shotgun with dad up in the Coast Range and fishing with him off the rocks at the coast.

My most successful type of angling is for sea bass, and when I want to catch something and experience a bit of excitement, I go to the coast.

I also enjoy crabbing, it’s like playing a claw game every time you pull up the pot and I find it exceptionally addictive!

I enjoy pond fishing for the relaxation. I live on the shore of a pond (not my pond, just in close proximity to it) and have a lot of good opportunities to fish casually and draw or photograph the birds and otters that live here. I catch and release when I fish here. It’s a privately owned pond and the owners have expressed concerns that the fish have been exposed to too many pesticide runnoffs over the years (yuck). They won’t eat the fish here either. It’s a great place to practice.

While I am first and foremost an artist by profession, I am also outdoorsy and enjoy working on a sketchbook while waiting for a bite.

My husband is an active duty member of the military and when he is not deployed I enjoy heading up to the woods with him and our three kiddos.

Hobbies and interests I hold are varied and in addition to outdoors activities I love to talk art, gardening, sewing, cooking. I used to regularly post art tutorials and videos of myself creating work on a YouTube channel called Art By Karen E Haley, although I am on a prolonged hiatus.

The advent of the notion that “Karen” means “entitled woman” really didn’t do me any favors unfortunately and it turned me off from being on social media much.

I want to learn more about fishing in areas I haven’t been, and I would expect a forum about fishing would be a good place to look!

I have yet to try skiing or snowboarding, but I would love to give it a go. I believe the purpose to life is to experience new things and teach my kids to be open to trying new things, until God calls me home.
